More Arkansas Trip pics

Last Thursday morning we headed to Mt Magazine State Park on Hwy 309. Here are some pictures along the way.

Devil's Den Trail

WARNING!! Lots of pictures ahead--continue at your own risk!

This is my second installment of posting about our recent 37 hour driving trip. After eating lunch on day 1, we looked at the Atlas map together and decided to head north on Hwy 71 and then changed to I-540 in Ft Smith. The trees were looking a bit bare and I was really getting sick of the car, so we ended up following signs to Devil's Den State Park in Northwestern Arkansas. The drive there was winding and very pretty. A quick browse in the Visitor Center and we decided to go on a 1 1/2 mile trail. We started at 3:00.

It wasn't long before we arrived at the devil's den cave. We didn't have flashlights and so we didn't venture inside. It looked interesting though and like it might be fun to do someday.

We continued along the path. I thought these tree roots were interesting.

Then we came to the crevices. These were huge holes with lots of rock formations. I tried to get good pictures, but most were not good at all. You just can't get the depth in a 2 dimensional pic.

There were lots and lots of really pretty rock formations along the trail.

This next picture is of a cave called the Ice Box. You could feel the cool air coming from this area. By this time we had worked up a sweat, so the cool air felt great!

The pathway was very nice with trees, leaves, and rock formations all along the way. The overcast sky didn't provide the best photos.

Another feature on the trail was a waterfall. With the present shortage of water, I wasn't sure if there would be any water or not. There wasn't much but here it is.

We are just about to the end of our hike. This was a little stream. You could tell that there are times when there is a lot more water in the stream.

I thought the tree was really pretty even though there were so many limbs in the way.

So after we finished out hike, we were back in the car and headed back south to the Ft Smith area and found a Motel 6 to spend the night.

Good night!!
